`POSCO Group Academy`, the educational corporation, established.

 - The group company`s educational organization combines personnel, organization and functions to train talented individuals in expertise and operational excellence. 


The POSCO Group Academy held an opening ceremony at the Songdo Learning Center in Incheon on February 4th, where it announced the establishment of an education corporation dedicated to fostering talented individuals working for the POSCO group at home and abroad. 

At the opening ceremony, more than 100 staff and executives attended, including the president Kwon Oh Joon, the first director of the POSCO Group Academy Park Gui Chan along with presidents of other group companies, with staff and executives of Pohang and Gwangyang watching the opening ceremony via video link. 

The POSCO Group Academy is a newly-established education corporation combining POSCO`S Future Creation Academy, which is the previous incarnation of education organization, POSCO`S Future Creation Academy, POSCO Group Academy, as well as POSRI`s business unit for the educational innovation and education-related personnel, organization and functions of each group company. 

The group has been hampered in recent years by a lack of a common educational system, with duplicated and overlapping learning opportunities provided by each group company leading to considerable inefficiencies. The asymmetrical provision of education-specialized organizations throughout the POSCO group led to problems with sharing information and problems with providing a consistent learning and development path across POSCO. The rise in overseas staff to more than 40 percent of all workers makes it a managerial imperative to spread the same management philosophy to global companies and ensure a leveling of global staff competencies. The POSCO Group Academy plans to enhance synergies by solving the problems of group education and systematically cultivating talented personnel who can lead the future of POSCO group. 

There was a packed program of events for the opening ceremony. After the first appointed director Park Gui Chan introduced the process behind establishing the POSCO Group Academy, there was an animation on the new vision and mission of the POSCO Group Academy. The `My Great Dreams` initiative was then released using a puzzle made from the dreams of staff and executives involved in the establishment of the POSCO Group Academy. President Kwon completed the piece by writing some words of encouragement to provide the last piece of the puzzle, saying `For the great challenge of the POSCO Group Academy toward the Great POSCO people`. 

In his congratulatory remarks, POSCO president Kwon said, ``The POSCO Group has always devoted itself to fostering talented personnel under its management philosophy of `The corporation is people`.`` Kwon went on to emphasize that the POSCO Group Academy succeeds the value of a deep-rooted respect for talented people. He also requested that the POSCO Group Academy concentrate on training creative and talented people with solid expertise and operating capability, as the reconstruction of `POSCO the Great` depends on securing excellent people. In addition, he ordered solutions to be provided in a quick and timely manner to deal with the current issues faced by group companies. This is part of the Academy`s consulting role to support innovation across the POSCO group through its consulting functions using retired experts. 

The POSCO Group Academy plans to spread the group`s common management vision to all staff and executives in order that it may function as a cradle for the cultivation of global talented personnel embodied with POSCO spirit. In particular, it will hire outstanding staff and executives who plan to retire alongside existing retirees in a new role as professors or consultants. This way, elderly staff with almost 30 years of experience can remain in the company and pass on their management know-how to the next generation, even after the age of retirement.
