Eolab` (Renault), which can run for 100 kilometers on 1 liter of fuel, created by POSCO`s solution marketing will make its debut in Asia

Renault`s Eolab which features POSCO`S Ultra High Strength Steel and magnesium sheet will be presented at the `2015 Seoul Motor Show` which will be open at KINTEX on April 3rd in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do. The concept car will be presented for the first time in Korea, as well as in the Asian region since its unveiling at the Paris Motor Show in October last year.
Renault`s Eolab, which will be staged at the Seoul Motor Show, is a new prototype developed from a concept car that runs for 100km on 1 liter of fuel. It has recently been verified according to the New European Driving Cycle. Its excellent fuel efficiency and the unique exterior design with the shape of a water drop are highly anticipated by visitors.
Above all, Eolab has exceptional fuel economy due to the lightweight body which features composite materials. The design allows for lowered air resistance and the application of innovative solutions. As its carbon dioxide production is only 22 grams per 1 kilometer, fuel economy and carbon emission reduction performance is five times higher than that of other green cars. It can be driven for up to 60 kilometers on electricity without emitting exhaust gas. It is expected that Eolab will take leading actions against changes in the car industry environment, such as regulations on carbon dioxide emission.
POSCO applied a new type of steel, including Ultra High Strength Steel, such as 900TWIP and 2000HPF, and magnesium sheet in the development project of the Eolab concept car last year. It contributed to the lightweight car body, and undertook various solution marketing activities like participating in manufacturing parts for demo cars. In particular, the roof weight of Eolab was reduced by around 4.5 kilograms by applying POSCO`s magnesium sheet on the car roof which weighs approximately 10 kilograms. With the use of these lightweight materials on Eolab, it succeeded in reducing the weight about 400 kilograms in total compared to previous Renault`s compact cars.
POSCO`s leading technology capability recognized in the European automobile market has been proven itself as the only steel company, as well as a non-European partner, among Renault`s five partners which participated in the development project of the Eolab concept car. These included Michelin and Faurecia.
The innovative technologies applied in Eolab have already been in the stage of commercialization. Magnesium sheets manufactured in the same way of manufacturing the Eolab`s magnesium roof has been applied in the New SM7 Nova. Renault plans to gradually raise the rate of applying verified innovative technologies of Eolab to mass produced cars.
POSCO plans to strengthen its own competitiveness by actively involving itself in solution marketing activities such as developing new steel grades and supporting utilization technologies through cooperation with clients, based on experience accumulated in the participation of Eolab`s development project.
